A Customizable Mail Letterhead Template For OS X Leopard

Customizable Letterhead Template for Mac OS X Leopard MailThis didn’t take as long as I thought it would.

Here is a very simple, non-cute, customizable letterhead template for Mail in OS X Leapord that is suitable for business use. It my first attempt and very simple, but it works. Your logo will be centered in the page. Here is the download link.

Letterhead Templates For Mail.

Once the file has been downloaded. Put it in the “Resources” folder in whatever category you would like it to appear. Library> Application Support> Apple> Mail> Stationery> Apple> Contents> Resources> Stationery> Contents> Resources for example. To use it, simply drag your logo into the image window and resize.

I’ll work on some more designs later.

Enjoy!

Great stuff. Thank you.

My pleasure.

Many thanks for your example, that really helped me create my own stationary.
Maybe you could ad the hint, that content, which the user should be able to edit, must be tagged with contenteditable=”true”
That was a thing I had to figure out…
Tnaks you very much!

Ralph… Thank you, I will do that

Thanks for posting this. Worked perfectly!

I know the stationary idea makes some people cringe, especially considering how much extra space they take up in a mailbox, but I’ll give you a perfect example of who they’re useful for…

My Dad and I e-mail each other every night, consistently. I am the only person in his mailbox, and it’s a nice little tradition we have together when he goes to his computer specifically to hear from his son.

With these new stationaries, I drag and drop photos from iPhoto and it makes them a little more special to him.

So being able to use your template as a starting point to create my own is very helpful because I was wondering about starting my own templates to use. My Dad and I both thank you :)

Nathan… great story! I’ve heard the grumblings about stationery as well and realize some could over use the templates. But used in the ways like you describe, I think they’re wonderful. This gave me a big smile this morning. Thank you!

I just edited two new “not cute” versions. Very simple, but more appropriate for a business setting.

I down loaded your business stationery. Great!! just what I was after. I tried to save the custom template in the ‘Save as Stationery” under the file menu, but it is greyed out??? Any ideas? I noticed that the logo I dragged in appeared in all the templates which contain replaceable photos.

Once you select a photo in an existing email, it will stay there FOR THAT EMAIL when you change to different template. It will not be there when you create a new email. The “save as Stationery” command does not work with the new Stationery features. Go figure.

I love your template. Is there anyway to save the template with my logo in there? That way I dont have to add it each time I want to use it.

Jason, unfortunately, Apple has the “save as stationery” feature disabled if you in stationery! So, the only way to do it is to edit one and place the graphic in the html.

thank you for the templates as i am new to leapord i am trying to see how these basics may help kids i am mentoring with macs and i life. the mail and stationary is an older concept but still kool… can one work with iweb to master a stationary template or do you know of a freeware or shareware app. that may assist a not so savvy html guy… help a few folks…
thanks

Hi there!

Great stationary. Just two problems … When I double click them they have a green pattern back ground and a very decorated frame around the pictures. No whites at all … How come?

And why is “save as stationary greyed out” and not possible?

I’d like this to work since I need them …

Best regards, Eva

Please see above message. And now: Where should I save it?

Eva again

None of the downloades stationarys look as they should. Even the letterhead one is patterned in green and with three pictures in top. I’ll mail you a proof if yiu want. What is happening? The pink baby is … blue!

Hello, Jeff!

Thank You so much for great tutorials and great work!

This template (as equinoix) is start point for my own.

Great thanks for help!

Good luck!

Eva… the templates go in whichever of the folder you wish to put them inside Library> Application Support> Apple> Mail> Stationery> Apple> Contents> Resources> Stationery> Contents> Resources

Hi Jeff,

Thank you SO much for the business templates!

I have a stationery request that I think a few others would also like to see, if you are willing.

I have tried working with the stationery templates, and one in partIcular I’ve messed up so badly that it can’t be used anymore (no, didn’t make a copy) is Tackboard.

So I am reluctant to keep trying (having no html experience nor Dreamweaver program).

I have a header - 8.556″x2.444″ @72 -and a footer - 8.556″ x 1.097″ @72 that I would like to use in stationery.

Do you think it would be possible to create stationery where I could use these images?

thanks!

Suzanne… are you wishing to have both of them dynamic, or are these static graphics?

Hi Jeff,

I tried and tried. I used ‘Family’ newsletter, buy I can’t get rid of their name. Also, the top banner needs to be slimmer. In place of their picture, I put in a rainbow.

I would like the banners to be static.

the beige is a perfect match for “my” beige.
Did you see my Home page?

I would send you what I did, but I can’t attach anything to this email.
thanks,
Suzanne

Suzanne.. if you can send me the graphics, I’ll see what I can do in my spare time. :)

Hello Jeff,

I really appreciate your work, thank you !
Two questions from me:
1. Everytime I try to rename a template ( for example make ‘Golddollar’ out of ‘Sanddollar’ ) the template vanishes from mail. What can I do ?
2. What can I do to create a new selection folder for my own templates ? Example here: A guy in the web created a new downloadable template ( http://pz2.ucls.uchicago.edu/photoCluster/photoCluster.1.0.zip) that shows up in Mail in a new folder called ‘Custom’. But I can’t find the folder anywhere.

Please, Jeff, can You help ? THANK YOU ! Rasmus

Jeff,

I am trying to use one of your business templates. Everytime I drag my logo in the box it is way to large.

I have edited in photoshop and resized it as what the box says with a 175px ratio, which actually makes the height of my logo like only 55px, which I figured would be fine since it was smaller than the requirements.

Is there a way to resize it in the template in mail itself? I just cant seem to get my logo to fit. Appreciate any advice.

A logo troubled emailer,
JJ

Good comments, all. I have taken a couple templates and saved them as a draft to use for later letters. Do you all know of a source for more templates that I can use directly in the Mac Mail program? I’m talking about choosing show stationery and finding many more templates that I have added. Do you know how to do that? If not that, is there any decent source of templates I can paste into a Word document or as I did, saved as a draft? Your insight will be much appreciated by me, as well as many others.

Thanks!

Hi, I just came across your site as i was troubleshooting the stationary templates for mail, wondering if you can help me? I’ve been using one of the baby announcement stationary templates (without changing it) but when i send it to a PC user it comes up all warped, the text is on a different background and the formatting is different. If you opt to view it as an web page it shows up normally but i fear sending the announcement out to a big list, and having it come out warped for some. Is there any way to change the settings on my side, in order to insure that the formatting comes across accurately to PC users? would so appreciate any insights
Thanks!

Karen, can you have one of your PC friends do a screen grab so I can see exactly what’s happening?

Jeff Turner’s last blog post..Let’s Try BubbleGuru.com Again

Hi Jeff!

You have a great blog and some wonderful ideas! Although, there are problems with several of your downloads. I would like to be able to use your gray and white templates… however, the downloaded templates are neither gray nor white. I have downloaded each of your templates hoping that they might have been mixed up. There are no links on your blog for the gray and the white templates… and some of the others are also not what they are described as.

Can you please help me out?

Thanks!

I’m at a loss. I just tested each of the pdf download links and they all worked fine for me.

Hi Jeff,
I downloaded your Apple Mail templates and they are working fine. I wonder how they are made up. Can you make such a template by just doing it e.g in Pages?

Thank You very much!

Jeff,

Nope, there is still a problem with the templates. When I download what should be the Grey Letterhead template, I get ‘Fun In The Sun’ with a green squiggle background. And your Pink Baby template… it’s blue, or actually aqua to be more precise. Either way… none of these are really suitable for business emails.
Any chance that this will be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff
Brilliant work - your templates really work. I wonder if I could commission you do a newsletter for my company for me? Do you think that could be possible?
Please let me know - I can e-mail you my design idea and if you can work around it that would be great.
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best
George

I just bought a Leopard OSX and when I took the one to one classes their mail had an icon for stationary and photos, mine has a google bar. They didn’t say anything about downloading templets. Is this an older version that you had to do that. Or is that what I have to do? Could anybody walk me through it so I don’t have to wait another week to find out. Thanks

Shannon, this is doable in the very latest version of OS X which is 10.5.2. They don’t talk about downloading templates in the classes, because it’s not something that Apple provides. As for the google bar, you will not see the stationery icon until you click to create a new email. It will then appear on the top right hand side of the window. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jeff. I do have OSX5.2. However, even when creating new mail it still does not appear. I’ve tried under preferences. I guess the next step is Apple Care! -Shannon

Okay, scratch that last comment by Shannon. Duh! I didn’t realize you had to push another button to make it visible upon opening. Apparently, the button on the far right is a pop up/down menu that opens it up. The stationary icon and photo browser icon were hidden until I pushed it. Thanks! Shannon

Thank you!

I downloaded the babypink file and am not sure what to do with it now. When i double click on it it opens a new message window with the blue boy one.
