Upgrading To WordPress 2.6 (Late)

The problem with long vacations is that you often miss things. The benefit of long vacations is that you don’t care.

So, I missed the launch of WordPress 2.6 and have just installed it using the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin. Talk about some TechnoSanity. The plugin works beautifully and the entire process took less than 10 minutes. And I’m happily writing this post using the new “Press This” bookmarklet that is now a part of Wordpress 2.6, doing away with the need for the QuickPost plugin I had been using.

I love it when things just work.

Live Documents enters the Office suite ring | Between the Lines | ZDNet.com : : “We are just a few years away from the end of the shrink-wrapped software business. By 2010, people will not be buying software. This is a significant challenge to a proportion of Microsoft’s revenues.”

I’m not sure why the end of shrink wrap software will dramatically impact Microsoft. As the author goes on to state, they’ve been involved in similar efforts. So it’s hard for me to see them beign caught by surprise on this. “Free” apps tha work as well as Microsoft’s suite will certainly have an impact, but the delivery vehicle won’t be why.

vozMe : : This falls into the category of "why?" The English voice used is horrid, but understandable, but the Spanish voice was both horrid and unable to be understood. Not a good combo.

I know it's just a rumor… but this is one I really hope is true. I was just commenting yesterday on the need for an iPhone like device that was big enought to use more effectively. There are many times I can do without my laptop, but the small form factor of the iPhone makes it tedious after a bit.
