I’m going to have to admit that my first thought when reading about a wireless memory card was, “Is this a joke?”

“Eye-Fi uses home wireless networks to eliminate the time-consuming chore of dealing with cables, card readers or software plug-ins associated with uploading photos. Users simply turn on their digital camera and their pictures are wirelessly uploaded. The Eye-Fi Card works with existing and new SD-compatible digital cameras and stores photos like a conventional SD memory card. “

But it’s not. “Yes, there really is Wi-Fi inside that tiny little card. We think it’s going to change the way people take, save and share photos.” I’ve not tested it yet, but after reading the press releases, looking at their site and watching the demo videos, I’m off to buy a card to test.

Here’s how Eye-Fi is supposed to work:
There is a single setup step. This step configures your card to your home wireless network and your photo upload sites. Once you set up the card with the access to your photo sharing sites and your home wireless network, the card will automatically upload the photos you’ve taken as soon as you are in range of your network. No wires. No card reader. According to their site, you don’t even have to remember to do anything. It just happens.

So, I’m off to go buy an Eye-Fi card and give it a test run. The cost is $99.99, which is as much as three times the cost of a regular 2 Gig SD Memory Card, so it better make my life simpler. I’ll be reporting back on how simple it is to set up and use.

There’s a lot to do to get this blog ready for prime time, but we’ve chosen a magazine template we like and our editing it to make it work for our needs.

There’s also still a great deal of work to be done to establish the right focus for the content that will come. The goal is a technology blog for the average real estate agent. But it should be appealing to the novice and the expert in equal measure.

It will be a tough line to walk.
